When i try to connect to a server...

When i try to connect to a server steam sends me an error saying something about Steam Id problem and sometimes the game stops working like "hl2 has stopped working"

Please help.

    Okay, make sure you're not VACbanned, for a start. If that doesn't work, go into library, right click on the game, properties, local content, and "verify game files" or something like that. Should any files fail, they will be redownloaded, in the same manner games and updates are downloaded. DOING THE GAME CONTENT VERIFY WILL DELETE ALL SKINS OR MODIFICATIONS YOU HAVE THAT EDIT PRE-EXISTING FILES
